When I trained as a hypnotherapist/psychotherapist I realised that many people have mistaken beliefs about hypnotherapy. They range from believing that a session will be the same as a stage hypnotist – with them running around barking like a dog with the therapist in total control, that they will wake up and not remember what they have done – to the belief that they can have one session – the therapist will programme the client and they will leave and be different from that moment on.
Hypnotherapy is none of the above. I have found both hypnotherapy and psychotherapy to be such wonderful tools to help people that I hope I can explain in my own way what it can do for you so that you feel comfortable and relaxed inseeking out this form of treatment.
When a client comes to me we explore what their issue is. I listen very carefully to what they are saying and then use their beliefs, values and wishes to create a session to help them find ways of moving forward by making new choices, finding new possibilities and understanding their own inner needs to achieve their goal.
Hypnotherapy can be used, with a client’s full co-operation,to bypass the busy/worried conscious mind and enter the wonderful world of the unconscious mind. During hypnosis the vast resources of the unconscious are receptive to positive thoughts and suggestions. This allows the positive changes required to take place.
Being “in trance” or “going under” as some people describe it is a natural thing to do. Trance is a relaxed state that the body enters many times naturally in the day. For example; when you daydream, you enter your inner world and focus on your dream, or when you arrive at a destination and can’t quite remember the journey in the car. So when this takes place during a session, you “enter trance” by becoming very relaxed and the hypnotherapist will help you focus on your innerthoughts, fantasies, plans and memories. It can become quite a trip!
I hope that this has gone part of the way to explaining thathypnotherapy is a safe, and hugely beneficial tool to helping you overcome whateverissue/s you need to work on.
I have used hypnotherapy and psychotherapy for all of thefollowing ailments and have had many happy clients at the end of their session/s.
- Depression, anxiety, stress and panic attacks
- Drugs and alcohol problems
- Phobias and allergies
- smoking, weight
- Increase motivation and confidence
