We are all striving for life balance, the perfect vision, a sense of purpose and for some of us, an organised office!
Being a Life Coach for me is more than just working in partnership with others it’s also a way of life. I really believe that I can have the life I truly want now and not in my next lifetime and from experience, I know that the only person holding me back is me. But there’s one thing that’s letting me down, and I have to be honest here, and that is my shared office.
For those of you who have been on the Introduction to Life Coaching workshop you’ll know what I’m talking about. One of my short term goals since the summer has been to re-organise my shared office so that I don’t trip over my partner’s camera equipment, guitars, bike and assorted paraphernalia. Looking at this issue from the place of ‘easy and with utmost satisfaction’ I knew that all I had to do was get planning, get creative and get to it. Making the whole experience even easier I have a friend studying interior design.
So easy! So what’s stopped me? Good question! I realised that I hadn’t committed to my goal because some of the motivational support and structure was lacking. I didn’t have a clear vision of what the room would look like or solutions for dealing with the ‘extra hobby stuff’ which would need relocating. Even worse, I hadn’t scheduled a to-be-done-by date. As the room is a shared space I knew that my partner also had to commit to the new design and layout, with the challenge of getting him excited about decorating and general manual labour. Well, you can see why it just never got started.
But that was yesterday and today is a new day. I’ve now confessed my barriers and mental blocks and I am ready to commit! First of all, I’m going to become an avid viewer of home decorating shows and magazines with the intention of creating a visual guide for the new office. My good friend Tania (the interior designer) has agreed to become my project buddy, and having a hobby-husband she is also well versed in managing ‘shared spaces’. I’m aiming for completion by March 22nd, in time for the next workshop. And as for enrolling my partner, well that may take a little longer to solve, but bearing in mind doing it the ‘easy way’, just sharing my first thoughts, excitement and ideas could be a great place to start.
Wish me luck!
